Long gone are the days when summer was the only season to get married in. Winter wonderland and autumn weddings are now just as popular as those in the summer, and it’s no wonder! Golden leaves, crisp autumnal air, cosy nights in – autumn is an extremely romantic time of year which makes it the perfect season for intimate weddings. There is also the added advantage of the ‘off-season’ prices during the colder months for booking venues, caterers, florists that can help keep the cost of your wedding down. We’ve put together a list of some of our favourite autumn wedding theme ideas inspired by our real brides to help you plan an unforgettable seasonal wedding.

Autumn-themed wedding ideas:

Rustic autumn wedding

Rustic, countryside inspired weddings are popular all year round, but especially in spring and autumn. This is not surprising as having an outdoor-themed, rustic autumn wedding allows you to say ‘I do’ while surrounded by the beautiful English countryside when it’s in its full autumnal glory. Think of rolling fields dressed up in vibrant shades of reds, oranges, mustards and greens as the backdrop for your wedding photos, or an old barn or farmhouse decked out for a cosy autumnal wedding for you and your guests. What could be more perfect?

For a rustic autumn wedding theme, the outdoors will play a central part, so bring the season inside through the greenery and wedding flowers you choose. Ferns punctuated with vibrant wildflowers or garlands made from autumnal leaves can be great ways to bring the beauty of the season inside. You could even go fully seasonal by including pumpkins, twigs, branches and trees in your wedding venue decor!

Autumn themed wedding decorations such as table centrepieces, bunting and wooden signage can also help to embrace the colours of the season. Think muted colour pallets, natural decorations like pine cones and conkers, and cosy lighting from low-hanging lights and candles to create a romantic, intimate atmosphere.

For autumn themed wedding dresses, look for gowns that incorporate long or cap sleeves or high necks to keep you warm in the cooler temperatures. You can also pair your wedding dress with an autumnal themed wedding bouquet to add a splash of seasonal colour to your bridal look. Elegant autumn wedding

If a rustic, countryside wedding isn’t your thing, then an elegant autumn wedding might be the theme you’re looking for. For a sophisticated wedding, opt for classy venues for an added level of luxury or for locations with cool structural backdrops for more of a modern feel to your big day. Although you might want to tone down the amount of colour you use in your elegant autumn wedding, you can still incorporate a bold colour scheme to embrace the vibrancy of the season. Burgundy, burnt orange, dark green and navy all work well as autumn colours and can be used to brighten up your venue. This could be in your wedding decorations, bridal bouquet or your bridesmaids and groomsmen outfits – it’s completely up to you!

For your autumn-themed table decorations, think of incorporating items with clean lines and geometric shapes for a modern, elegant feel. Greenery and autumnal wedding flowers can also be incorporated to bring a little bit of the outdoors inside, but we would suggest using them sparingly to maintain the sophisticated feel of your wedding. Alternatively, you can use more modern wedding venue decorations like elegant draping in autumnal shades for a clean aesthetic.

When it comes to your wedding dress, silk wedding gowns are perfect for bringing out the elegance of your big day. Across our bridal collections, we use the finest silk to make our minimalist wedding dresses. Our modern classic wedding dresses from our Winter Capsule Collection embrace the elegance of contemporary weddings. While the clean, minimalistic designs in our Reflection Collection are perfect for a chic, stripped-back bridal style. For a really modern look, why not choose a bridal jumpsuit instead of a traditional wedding dress? All of our wedding jumpsuits for brides are designed in clean, simplistic lines for a modern feel.

Woodland autumn wedding

Nothing says autumn like an atmospheric woodland with towering trees and fallen leaves. Woodland autumn weddings are becoming increasingly popular and are incredibly romantic. Because of the beautiful scenery, woodland weddings are a great way to cut back costs on decorations as you often only need a few simple touches to create the perfect forest wedding. Browse venues that boast an ancient forest or impressive woodland for a scenic backdrop for saying your vows.

For autumn-themed table decorations, think pine cone place names, autumnal greenery and wooden log or leaf coasters. Your autumnal wedding theme can also extend to your wedding cake by using seasonal fruit like blackberries to adorn the cake. Sweet, seasonal treats like toffee apples and hot chocolate, and hearty, warming meals can replace traditional wedding dinners to add to the cosy atmosphere of the day.

As the British weather isn’t always reliable (especially in the colder months) it’s best to be prepared for all weathers for your woodland autumn wedding. Think practically when it comes to footwear, and consider wedding dress accessories like bridal capes and jackets to keep you warm outside. Setting aside cosy knitted blankets for your guests can also add to the homely feel of your venue and be another way to add seasonal colours to your outdoor venue.

When it comes to choosing autumn wedding gowns for your woodland wedding, wedding dresses with sleeves are a great choice as they will keep you more covered than spaghetti strap or strapless dress styles and have the benefit of added warmth. Flower crowns and autumnal bridal bouquets for you and your bridesmaids can also add some seasonal colour to your outfits and help you match your woodland surroundings for your wedding photos.
