Whether you’re looking to get in shape for your wedding, tone up or manage wedding planning stress, discover our top tips. Our self-care guide is the perfect pick-me-up to boost your mental well-being and help you feel body confident in your dream wedding dress.

Feel body confident in your dress

Your idea of body confidence is totally personal to you. You may want to lose weight (which you don’t need to do to look good in your dress) or simply tone up. Whatever your fitness goals, we are here to help you achieve them in the healthiest way possible – both mentally and physically.

Set attainable goals

The earlier the better; ideally, you should start making healthy lifestyle changes as soon as you have set a date for your wedding. This is to allow enough time to set attainable goals and to ensure you’re achieving your fitness goals in a healthy manner. The later you leave it, the more likely you may be to engage in more restrictive behaviours such as crash dieting (which could then have disastrous effects on your mental wellbeing!).

Choose your dream wedding dress

Finding your perfect wedding dress should be one of the first steps to kick-start your wedding fitness goals. Once you know what you’re working towards, you can tailor your cardio and strength-training schedule to get targeted results. Whether you’re showing off your shoulders with a stunning strapless wedding dress this summer, or are after an entirely bespoke wedding dress, choose your dress as early as possible to target parts of your body that your dress will accentuate.

Our Made to Measure service ensures your dress will be fully made to your measurements, so you can be assured you will have a perfect fit no matter your height, size or body shape. This will give you total flexibility with design and the capability to add or take away details. Typically this will be done 6-8 months in advance.

What if I choose my dress and then lose weight?

If you’re planning on losing weight (even a significant amount), it’s best to order your bridal dress as soon as possible, rather than waiting to lose weight first. We can make alterations that match your changing body shape – just make sure you keep us in the loop with your fitness goals so we can organise a schedule for your fittings. Ideally, you should be at your ideal weight at your measurement appointment (which will typically be done 4-5 months before your wedding day).

Exercise is key

Exercise helps to reduce stress, promotes better sleep, improves posture, gives you bursts of energy, and generally improves your mood. This is extremely beneficial during wedding planning. The time you put into exercise you will reap in positive energy and attitude, just what you need to get things done! Instead of letting the problems build up and overwhelm you, your brain will become more proactive and excited about how to tackle them. Think of fitness as self-care and not a chore!

Create a wedding fitness plan

Find an exercise you enjoy

If you haven’t exercised in a while, you can always start out small and gradually build your fitness up with an exercise you love. Start with a simple 10 minute body workout until you have the strength and stamina to do a full-hour session. You could even work out with your bridesmaids to hold each other accountable, but more importantly, have fun!

Combine cardio & strength training

Many wedding dresses show off your upper body, so if you’re looking to tone up we recommend focusing on strength exercises for your back and arms. Dance aerobics, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), pilates or spin classes are all great choices.

Focus on your core

Having a strong core is important for a healthy lifestyle. Squats and lunges are ideal for strengthening your legs, whilst some core exercises will support your posture whilst boosting your strength training. Side planks, dance cardio moves and some simple sit-ups are best for this.

Unwind for a healthy mind

Feeling mentally in shape is just as important as your physical wellbeing. Ensure you are unwinding from the wedding admin and keeping all stresses to a minimum. The little things can really make all the difference. Relax in our Loungewear, read a book, have a bath, or practise some yoga – just 10 minutes a day can be hugely beneficial. From reducing wedding planning stress to creating mental clarity: the health benefits are endless. Indulge in a much-needed dose of self-care.

Nourish your body with nutrition

Instead of specifically cutting down on junk food, it is important to focus on healthy foods which you can add to your diet. From leafy greens to fatty fish, nuts and berries, superfoods are sure to keep you full and ensure your skin is glowing.

Now you know how to look and feel incredible for your big day, it is time to kickstart your self-care plan and choose your dream wedding dress.
