The summer months bring around brighter, longer days with an abundance of alluring flowers and fresh colours. With June-September being peak months for weddings we often work with our wonderful brides to make sure they feel cool, comfortable and stylish on their wedding day. At AH all of our designs are made from 100% natural, breathable silks and fibres. This means you will not need to worry about feeling too hot on your wedding day during the summer months!

We have a wonderful selection of summer appropriate dresses that are perfect for those balmy summer days. We’ve put together some of our favourite looks for three different styles of summer weddings. A summer city look, a classic summer wedding and a destination option. Enjoy!

Summer in the city

A summer city wedding is the perfect opportunity to wear something light, playful and unique. Summer city weddings tend to be in outdoor restaurants, rooftops or gardens. You may also choose to walk between your venues given the sunnier, warmer days. A shorter length dress would be such a great option, they are extremely fun to wear, feel a little more relaxed and offer the practical element of being able to move freely. Our Amelie dress is a sleeveless midi, bias cut design that can be made in any colour you like! The open neckline, low back and fluid shape make it the perfect choice for a hot summers day.

If you prefer a little more coverage but still want to feel comfortable our Morgan dress ticks all the boxes. With a classic boat neckline, slightly higher back and midi a-line skirt this dress is our go to for any bride who wants a more classic summer feel.

For an alternative bridal look why not opt for a jumpsuit? Our Hadley jumpsuit is a light, strappy silk design with flowing trousers and a low open back. It looks amazing paired with some bright, bold accessories.

Don’t shy away from colour, have fun with your shoes, jewellery and flowers. We love these green, lavender and pink tones. Celebrate with seasonal florals like this playful arrangement by Flouresse, choosing colours and textures you love! Why not opt for a strappy coloured shoe, we love these square toe lavender sandals by Aeyde. Complete your look with some bold earrings like these green resin earrings by Sezane.

A Classic Summer Look

Traditional bridal gowns often come with connotations of being heavy and hot to wear, this is not the case at AH! You can still have a classically structured design that will be light and easy to wear. Our silk Bloom Dress is a fantastic example of this, with a beautiful open neckline, unique straps and comfortable in built corset you will feel secure and cool in this flowing full skirt design. For a floaty full skirted look our Florence dress is a wonderful option, the skirt is made from silk georgette which is a light breezy fabric, perfect for dancing the night away! It moves so beautifully and will be a dream to wear on a warm summers day.

Pair these designs with a classic full length veil for added drama. We love our lace edge Elizabeth veil, a traditional veil with a modern twist. This flows down the back of your dress as opposed to over the face, keeping things airy and light.

For your accessories we love the idea of a nude summer mule like Emmy London’s ‘Ruby’, a unique take on a classic bridal shoe. Explore the idea of a peach colour palette and florals like this gorgeous arrangement by Liberty Lane, these tones work perfectly with gold accents such as these beautiful floral gold hair pins by Maison Sabben.

Destination Wedding

For summer weddings abroad it’s important to think about the fabrics you are wearing. It’s likely to be very hot so opting for natural silks, linens and cottons is a great idea. Our Zoe dress is the perfect destination design, with delicate straps, a light flowing skirt a low lace back it feels beautifully feminine to wear whilst also having the added benefit of keeping you cool. If you’re looking for a little more drama our light silk Ines design paired with our Kori overskirt is a wonderful choice. Made from breathable silk and silk chiffon these two pieces worn together have such a beautiful summery feel whilst still making a statement. Silk satin fabrics look stunning in the summer sun, with light reflecting qualities this silk will be perfect heading into sunset.

Keep with the theme of natural fabrics for your accessories, we love the textural interest of raffia like this statement headband and these Fae Sandals by Cult Gaia. Add a wooden beaded clutch for your refreshing essentials such a Caudalie Face Mist. Why not follow these fabrics through to your table dressings? Use dried florals for an earthy palette, introduce naturally dyed linen napkins for your guests and ribbons for your bouquet (we love The Natural Dye Works). The key element of this styling is to add interest through texture and natural fabrics!

Some other tips for your summer wedding

Keep your guests cool with light refreshing drinks and treats. Think fizzy gin cocktails infused with cucumber and lime or cooling cocktail ice lollies.

Talk to your florist about which flowers can withstand heat, the last thing you want is wilting bouquet!

Provide plenty of shade – if your wedding is outdoors on a hot summers day make sure you have some shady spots for your guests to relax. Set up some cute spaces under trees with blankets and cushions.
